Learn to Trust with Yoga

Take a moment and bring your attention to your breath. Breath deeply down into your belly and then exhale fully. Notice how you trust the flow of your breathing. There is no part of you that worries about your next inhalation or exhalation. You trust that which breaths you will always do so. You trust the air will always be there. This is a deep knowing within you that life will always breath you and do what it can to keep you fully alive for the time you are on this planet.

Take a moment to bring your attention to the beat of your heart. Close your eyes and listen to your heartbeat, maybe place one or both hands on your heart and feel its power through your rib cage. Notice how you trust the beat of your heart. You don’t have to tell your heart to beat. You don’t have to think about what makes it beat, it just beats for you. A constant rhythm supporting the rhythm of your life. There is a deep knowing within you that never questions the constancy of the life giving and affirming support of your own heart. You trust your heart will do its job to keep you alive.

Take a moment to remember the last meal you ate, remember the tastes, smells, and enjoyment of that meal. Now tell your stomach to digest that meal – isn’t that a ridiculous instruction. Your digestive system knows what to do to process the food so you are as nourished as you can be and all the unrequired morsels are eliminated. It’s automatic, you trust that your meal will be processed perfectly, and you will benefit from the energy it provides.

This is trust. A knowing that life will support you. From this knowing your mind is freed from the questioning, controlling, demanding, worry and doubt. When you take the step in the direction of your dreams, it is like taking a deep inhale, you trust that what you need from the inhale will support you and now the practice is to trust that the step you take will start the processes of the universe to begin working in your favour so you can live as fully as you desire.

Where are your fears and doubts causing you to not trust in your next step? Can you take a deep breath and let those fears go and trust this step is meant to occur just like the beating of your heart? Can you learn to trust that your life is being lived, just like you are being breathed, your heart is beating and your digestion is processing by a loving universe that wants you to live your fullest potential?
