How We Accidentally Found Balance (and Lost Weight) with Ayurveda

For years, we’d both been on our own wellness journeys. As yoga teachers and long-time practitioners, we’d heard whispers of Ayurveda but never really dived in. That all changed about 18 months ago when curiosity turned into commitment.

Why Ayurveda?

Kristina’s fiery Vata-Pitta personality thrives on fast action and creativity—but it also meant digestive struggles, stress, and never saying no. Audrie, with her Kapha grounding, had sworn off dieting decades ago after disappointing experiences. Her focus was on aging gracefully, keeping her garden flourishing, and finding ways to keep her energy strong.

Neither of us was looking for weight loss. What we wanted was balance.

Discovering Our Constitutions

Ayurveda teaches that each of us is born with a constitution (dosha) that shapes how we think, act, and feel. Kristina’s quick-moving Vata tendencies and determined Pitta drive made her brilliant at saying “yes” but prone to burnout. Audrie’s earthy Kapha steadiness made her nurturing and grounded, but also sometimes resistant to change.

Together, we balanced each other beautifully. But our coach helped us see where we were out of balance—and what to do about it.

The Small Shifts That Changed Everything

  • Oiling (Abhyanga): At first, Audrie resisted the idea of covering herself in oil. But once she found a way to make it work in the shower, her skin (and her sense of lusciousness) transformed.
  • Introducing Ghee: Kristina was skeptical about adding clarified butter to her meals—hello calories!—but soon discovered how it calmed her nervous system and soothed her digestion.
  • Mindful Eating: By eating in alignment with our constitutions and the cycles of the day, we found ourselves more satisfied, better nourished, and surprisingly… losing weight without effort.
  • Daily Rituals: Tongue scraping, gentle spices, and even lymph-moving self-massage became grounding rituals that shifted everything from digestion to sleep.

Unexpected Results

Audrie lost 8 kilos without trying. Kristina didn’t lose weight, but her body reshaped itself—her digestion healed, her energy stabilized, and her skin softened. We both began glowing in ways people noticed.

But the biggest change? We found ease. No stress, no punishment, no deprivation—just giving our bodies what they needed, when they needed it.

The Power of Cleansing

One of the most transformative practices we’ve embraced is the guided Ayurveda cleanse. Unlike restrictive juice fasts, this cleanse nourishes you deeply with warm, grounding meals while allowing your digestion (and your mind) to reset. Our next guided cleanse begins October 16th, and every time we’ve done it, the results have been both physical and emotional.

We didn’t set out to become Ayurveda wellness coaches, but here we are. What started as a personal journey has become our life’s work.
